A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for south central Marion County Tuesday night, bringing heavy rain, hail, winds, and cooler air behind it. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 6:25 to 7 p.m. for live coverage of the storm impacting southern Marion County and other communities in the area. Five staff members contributed to live coverage and updates were provided by the Weatherology Weather Center. Heavy rain was widespread, with radar estimates of 2-3″ in some spots mainly south and east of Knoxville and Pella. Cooler conditions will be in place, with highs in the upper 80s, before another cooldown comes this weekend. Periodic chances for scattered showers and storms will remain this week as well. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
