indianola-8

The Indianola baseball and softball teams swept Oskaloosa in a pair of doubleheaders Thursday evening, baseball winning 2-1 and 8-4, and softball winning 14-1 in six innings and 8-1 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

Indianola baseball won game one in a nailbiter, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, and Oskaloosa then answered with a run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead in half. Neither team scored again, and Oskaloosa nearly tied the score in the bottom of the seventh to force extras but Indianola threw out the tying run at the plate to end the game.

Game two saw Indianola win 8-4 to complete the season sweep over Oskaloosa. The Indians scored the first six runs before Osky answered with three runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead in half, but Indianola scored another two in the sixth to complete the win.

Indianola improves to 19-10 on the season, and they will play in the Brent Prange Classic tournament today.

Indianola softball got off on the right foot in game one, trading runs in the first inning with Osky, then scoring six runs in the second inning to blow the game open, leading 7-1. The Indians then added a run in the third, and three more in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to end the game two innings early.

Game two saw Osky take an early 1-0 lead, before a three-run shot by Selia Becker put Indianola in the lead in the third that put them ahead for good. Mara Bishop hit an RBI single in the fourth, Hanna Graham added an RBI hit in the sixth, and earned another three runs in the seventh for insurance off of another hit from Graham, and a pair of grounders.

Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the Indians did a lot of things that didn’t show up on the scoresheet tonight to earn the win, and it was nice to end the week on a high note before the weekend tournament.

Indianola improves to 18-9 on the season, and will play in a tournament tomorrow.
