In the final full week of the Little Hawkeye Conference season, the summer teams from Pella started with a pair of losses in Grinnell, as the Dutch baseball squad fell to the #3 in 3A Tigers 4-1 and the softball girls dropped their contest 6-2 Monday.

Two Pella errors led to the Tigers’ scoring three of their four runs unearned against Nathan Carey, who struck out five in 4 2/3 innings, while the Dutch offense only mustered three hits at the plate. Pella falls to 16-12 overall and 9-9 in the conference, and will host North Polk tonight, which can be viewed on Pella Dutch Live.

In softball, the Dutch offense found similar struggles to their baseball counterparts in Grinnell, getting six hits and leaving six on base. Three of those came from senior Tori Van Vark, who was 3-for-3 at the plate. Pella drops to 10-19 overall and 5-13 in league play, and next heads to North Mahaska this evening.
