The Norwalk baseball team earned a hard-fought road win while the softball team lost another heartbreaker in non-conference action Tuesday night.

The Warriors won 4-2 at Southeast Polk in baseball, scoring two runs in the top of the first and plating the winning runs in their final at-bat. Dylan Christensen led off the seventh with a walk after being down in the count 0-2, then Ian Fisher doubled to right after initially fouling off two bunt attempts. Christensen and Fisher both scored on the play following a pair of Ram errors.

Vinny Mauro and DJ Harris both singled with an RBI for Norwalk, which improved to 16-16 overall. Southeast Polk dropped to 18-15, scoring both of its runs on Draven Woods’ third-inning two-run single.

Harris pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Keefer Sadoris to earn the win and Tucker Beving worked a 1-2-3 seventh for the save.

One night after losing a 9-8 decision at sixth-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes, the fourth-ranked Norwalk softball team dropped another tough one Tuesday as No. 2 Winterset prevailed 4-3.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, then rallied to tie the score in the fourth after Winterset put up a three-spot in the top of the inning. The Huskies, now 29-4 on the year, scored the winning run in the seventh when Summer Little followed Lauren Carter’s one-out double with an RBI single.

Norwalk (24-6 overall) got RBI base hits from Kaylee Cary, Addi Downe and Kady Vandemark on the night while Nyah Hulbert and Lauren Black also hit singles. Zadie Wadle took the loss in the circle, allowing 11 hits in seven innings, walking three and striking out seven.
