Both the Pella baseball and softball teams stepped out of the Little Hawkeye Conference for action Tuesday with split results. The Dutch softball team won 3-1 over North Mahaska, while the baseball team fell by the same margin to North Polk.

In New Sharon, Pella overcame an early 1-0 deficit with three runs in the 6th inning over the Warhawks. Catrina Dixson plated two with a single in that inning, one of her two hits on the evening. Ava Curry and Thea Wisse also each had a pair of hits, and Saige DeJong earned the victory in the circle, striking out five batters in seven innings. The Dutch softball team improves to 11-19 overall and heads to Eagle Lane for a doubleheader against the Eagles this evening that can be heard on the KRLS3 stream at 5:15.

Pella’s baseball team told a similar story offensively for the second straight night, stranding seven runners despite having a 1-0 lead for the first five innings, including leaving a pair on 3rd base twice. The Dutch squandered a five-inning shutout performance from Jack Howard with a pair of errors late in the game turning into unearned runs. Pella falls to 16-13 and will try to right the ship on Eagle Lane against Pella Christian. Pregame coverage begins at 5:15 p.m. today on 92.1 KRLS.
