The Indianola Community School District’s plans for upgrades for Indianola High School are still out to the public for feedback before the board makes any decision on a bond issue.

Laura Peterson with Invisition Architecture, who is assisting the Indianola Community School District Facilities Task Force, tells KNIA News the task force made a recommendation to the board in May, known as “Replace in Place” which will expand the high school to build a new commons area to link the gym, auditorium, and academic area, creating a new “heart” that the high school has previously lacked.

Peterson also said the Replace in Place plan would maintain about one-third of the current building, while about two-thirds would be new. The estimated cost would be $94 to $100 million, and it would take about 5-6 years to complete.

If the board decides to go forward with a bond vote and voters approve, it will not lead to a property tax rate increase.
