The Pella Christian softball team used a three-run third inning to climb out of an early hole and defeat Colfax-Mingo 5-3 in a regional playoff game heard live on 92.1 KRLS Wednesday.

The host Tigerhawks gained the early advantage, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.  The Eagles responded in a big way in the third inning, as Faith Kacmarynski’s double scored Emri Agre to cut the lead to one. Natalie Harrill then stepped up to the plate and blasted a two-run home run over the left-centerfield fence to put Pella Christian ahead 3-2.

The Eagles then added insurance runs in the middle innings, with Amaia Agre scoring on a Kacmarynski single in the top of the fourth and Trinity Vos adding the final run in the fifth on a Claire Braafhart single. Emma Eekhoff went the distance in the pitching circle to pick up her fourth win of the season, giving up two earned runs on four hits.

The now 10-21 Pella Christian softball team advances to the Class 2A Region 2 semifinal game on Friday Night at #6 Van Meter. The Eagles defeated the Bulldogs at Van Meter last season to punch their ticket to the state tournament, and the rematch game on Friday can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m.
