The Indianola softball team collected 18 hits and scored 12 runs in five innings in the regional final Tuesday evening, taking down Glenwood 12-2 to punch their ticket to Fort Dodge and the class 4A state tournament as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Rams scored first, taking advantage of a walk and an Indianola error, but that would be their only damage until the fifth as the Indians scored 11 unanswered runs over the next four innings. Kiley Kindelspire hit a two-RBI triple in the first to get the scoring started, Brynn Ortlund hit an RBI triple in the second, Kindelspire added another RBI double, and Selia Becker hit a no-doubt two-run homerun to blow the game open 6-2, as Hanna Graham tacked on another RBI single to make it 7-2 after the second. The Indians added another two in the third with another Kindelspire RBI hit, and two more in the fourth on yet another Kindelspire hit and a Hanna Graham solo homerun.

The Rams staved off the run rule ending with a run in the fifth, but Cassie Anderson’s RBI double scored Izzy Sloan and the Indians were walkoff winners.

Kindelspire was 4-4 with five runs driven in, three runs scored, and a homerun short of the cycle, and tells KNIA Sports she was seeing the ball well all evening long.

“I was just staying confident in the box, and watching the pitches. I knew I had a job to do and went out and got it done tonight.”

Izzie Benge picked up the win, and was dominant in the circle striking out nine, and she said despite Glenwood scoring the early run she was confident.

“You just have to have a positive mindset. If you are doing bad, you can’t get down as that will affect your whole game. You just have to push yourself further, and if something happens like that you have to get over it, and we did.”

Indianola is the #6 seed in the upcoming state tournament, and will take on Little Hawkeye Conference rival Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday at 5pm in Fort Dodge.
