On the night of Monday, January 17, senior Jocelyn “JoJo” Bice surpassed 1,000 career points in a girls basketball game at Carlisle, providing Norwalk’s number-nine sports story of the 2021-2022 school year.

Bice entered the contest averaging just over 10 points per game on the season, but poured in 30 points as the Warriors defeated the Wildcats 60-34. She achieved the 1,000-point mark on her 26th point of the night and made 12-of-15 two-point field goals while adding six steals and six rebounds.

After the game, Bice told KNIA Sports that her attacking approach offensively vs. Carlisle was all about taking advantage of what the defense gave her.

“Most of my shots were layups,” she said. “I just kind of had the mentality that no one was going to stop me from getting to the basket, and it ended up working out for me tonight.”

Bice added that her Warrior teammates played a big role in helping her reach the impressive career milestone.

“This being my last season playing basketball, it’s sort of a relief to achieve that goal, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it if it wasn’t for my teammates,” she said. “They have helped me out so much this season and the past four years, and it’s kind of also an achievement for them just because none of those baskets would have come if it hadn’t been for them.”

Bice, who will play collegiate soccer at Iowa State University starting this fall, led Norwalk’s basketball team with 14 points per game and 68 total steals as a senior. The Warriors finished 13-10 as a team, bowing out of tournament play following a regional semifinal loss at Bondurant-Farrar.
