Indianola Football Travels to Ankeny Centennial for Opener

The Indianola football team tries to repeat a 4-0 non-district schedule start as they did in 2021 beginning tonight, taking on the Jaguars of Ankeny Centennial. The Indians bring back a mix of experience and newcomers on the roster, including quarterback Bennett Brueck and wide receiver Drew Kingery, in addition to an athletic defense. Indianola jumped all over the Jaguars in the opener last year 42-13, but head coach Eric Kluver says they won’t be surprised by the high-flying Indians passing game this year, so they will have to match up correctly.

“I think we surprised them last year, and a lot of teams, we were really dynamic in the passing game with a lot of athletes, a lot of speed, and guys who could go up and get the ball. We feel good about our group of receivers this year. I think Matt Edgington and Josh Eilers can have a good year of running the ball out of the backfield, but the big question will be up front. Can we move guys around enough to open up some running lanes.”

The game will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30pm, with kickoff scheduled for 7pm.
