A second-place finish in boys golf and a five-set volleyball win highlighted a successful Tuesday for Norwalk Community athletics.

The Norwalk boys golf team placed second out of eight teams in the Ottumwa Invitational, shooting a 323 at the Ottumwa Country Club. Indianola took first with a 297.

Kasey Ludlow paced the Warriors with a seventh-place round of 77, including a 36 on the back nine. Cael Sherwood finished eighth with an 80, Braden Nicholson shot an 82 and Grady Sigrist added an 84. The Warriors’ next meet will be the Turk Bowman Invitational on Monday, September 12, at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

On Tuesday night, the Norwalk volleyball team defended their home court in a five-set thriller vs. Oskaloosa, prevailing 28-26, 15-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-11. Unofficial stat leaders for the Warriors were Noelle Sutcliffe with 21 kills, Ava Johnson 10 kills and Liz Iverson 44 assists.

Norwalk, ranked 15th in Class 4A, improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Indians, who qualified for a state last year, dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

The Warriors will return to action next Tuesday night, playing a Little Hawkeye match at Newton.
