Sixth-ranked Bondurant-Farrar forced three second half turnovers and turned all three into touchdowns as they pulled away from Pella to win 35-14 last night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

After the Bluejays jumped in front 7-0 on their first drive of the game, Pella tied it on a 20-yard pass from Luke Hardman to Trey Van Hauen, then took the lead on a 45-yard strike from Hardman to CJ Shetterly. Bondurant-Farrar scored just before the half to make it 14-14.

After forcing a punt on the opening series of the third quarter, Pella drove down to the 10-yard line when Hardman fired to the front of the end zone. He was picked off, and Bondurant-Farrar slowly marched down the field, scoring the go-ahead TD on the first play of the fourth quarter. The Dutch fumbled and threw another pick on their next two drives, and Bondurant-Farrar turned both short fields into touchdowns.

While it wasn’t the result that Pella wanted – they’re now 0-4 – coach Jay McKinstrey appreciated the fight his kids showed.

“As I told the kids, it’s like we’ve played four games in a row of quarterfinal football”, McKinstrey said. “The four teams we’ve played are that or more, so we’re learning how to play. The last two games we’ve really raised our level, and tonight was even better than last week.”

Hardman led the Pella offense by completing 11 of 14 passes for 176 yards and the two touchdowns. Shetterly caught seven passes for 155 yards, while Van Hauen also snagged seven balls for 69 yards.

The Dutch will open district play with their homecoming game next Friday night against Newton.
