The Norwalk volleyball team picked up a big road win at Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday night, overcoming a set-one loss to defeat the Fillies 3-1 and stay undefeated in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Ranked 14th in Class 4A, the Warriors dropped the opening set 20-25 before tying things up with a dominant 25-10 win in set two. They took the final two sets 25-21, 25-23, improving to 16-6 overall and 5-0 in the Little Hawkeye. DC-G dropped to 14-10 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Norwalk used an outstanding night from the service line to earn the win, recording nine aces against just one error in 95 attempts. Noelle Sutcliffe served 18-for-18 with four aces, Ava Johnson was 17-for-17 with two aces, and Liz Iverson and Grace Dehmer combined to serve 28-for-29.

Sutcliffe led the hitting attack with 15 kills and also had 18 digs. Johnson added nine kills, Iverson set 35 assists and Dehmer racked up 23 digs.

Norwalk head coach John Fulton called the victory a total team effort, crediting Sami Aagard and Johnson for their work in the middle as well as the “amazing” back row play of Dehmer, Sutcliffe, Dakota Poen and Katie Larson.

“The girls did a great job fighting all night against a really scrappy DC-G team,” Fulton said. “They are always well coached, and we were able to mix it up a bit to stay in our system. We were able to control the net after the first set and that was the difference as the night went along.”

The Warriors can clinch the outright conference title next Tuesday night when they host Indianola at 7:15 p.m. The Indians, who lost a five-setter to Dallas Center-Grimes on September 6, are 4-1 inside the Little Hawkeye.
