A former Pella High School kicker and Knoxville-area native decided to ultimately stay with the defending NAIA National Champions in his senior season, and that is paying off in 2022.

Chase Carter of Morningside was named Great Plains Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after going 2-for-2 on field goals and 7-of-7 on point after tries against Concordia last Saturday, including hitting a 45 yard three-pointer in the 55-18 win. He leads the nation in PAT’s made in 2022, hitting 74-of-76 this fall season for the 10-0 Mustangs.

Last fall, the Pella graduate was a 2nd team All-American honoree from the AP as a kicker for Morningside. Carter also earned 2nd team honors from the NAIA and helped the Mustangs win a 2nd National Championship in three seasons. Carter had announced a potential transfer to Northern Colorado in March, but ultimately decided to stay with Morningside.

The top-ranked Mustangs will host Arizona Christian University on November 19 in the first round of the NAIA Football Championship Series
