Having a quality breakfast or lunch can mean the difference for students to learn properly in schools, and a lack of food can mean a student could possibly lash out emotionally, withdraw, or just not be able to pay attention. Wilder Elementary teacher Michelle Stolz helps to run the Wilder Elementary Food Pantry, and tells KNIA News kids who are food insecure aren’t able to learn as well as those who have gotten a full three meals a day.

“It just messes with their emotions. When a kid is hungry, they can sometimes manifest it by getting snippy or angry, some just completely shut down or get spacier, either way they aren’t paying attention in class.”

The Wilder Elementary Food Pantry is open on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 4 to 5:30pm, or by appointment. For more information, click below.
