The Indianola girls and boys basketball teams and the boys swimming squad is all in action tonight, as the Indians basketball teams host Southeast Polk and the boys swimmers host Newton.

The boys swimming squad brings back all three state qualifiers in the individual events in Nathan Pollard, Matt Coffelt, and Isaiah Picard, while Chance Yates and Billy Shepherd were part of relays that also competed at the state level. The Indians share a program with multiple schools around the area, including Knoxville, Winterset, Central Decatur, and Pleasantville among others. Swimming starts tonight at 5:30pm.

The Indians girls basketball team is 1-0 on the season after winning their opener against Des Moines East, and will look to build on that momentum against a Rams team that made a class 5A regional final and brings back nearly the entire team. The Indians boys start their season tonight with a senior-heavy squad, and their fast-paced style will mesh with the new shot clock rules in place for this season. Head coach Jeff Ebling tells KNIA Sports there is going to be an adjustment period.

“We are taking numbers on how long we take on the shot clock, and we are kind of the opposite where we are trying to tell them you don’t have to go so fast and not shoot that shot and wait for a good look. But there are some other teams that will have to pick up the pace to adjust.”

The basketball games will be broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA with video on Indianola Activities YouTube, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 6pm, with tip off at 6:15pm.
