While the Pella Christian boys basketball team’s defense is one of the best in the Little Hawkeye Conference this season, the offense currently sits in the bottom half of the league.
Despite leading the conference with 13.3 offensive rebounds per game, the Eagles are averaging just 57.3 points per game which ranks fifth in the Little Hawkeye. Additionally, Pella Christian sits last in the league in three-point percentage, connecting on just 25.8% of their attempts. Eagles head coach J.D. Boer knows his team is capable of producing better numbers, and says the team has used the holiday break to work on improving the offense.
“I feel like a strength of our team as our versatility. I also think we have a lot of willing passers. So, we’ve been working on that a lot. Like can we just keep the ball moving? Can we create an advantage and then keep that advantage with our ball movement? You know, maybe it’s passing up a good shot to get a great shot. You know, maybe it’s, you know what, I got a pretty good shot, but if I keep that thing moving maybe it’ll come back to me and I’ll get a great shot. So, just trusting each other to keep that ball moving, get shooters in the right spot, get cutters in the right spot, allow some of our playmaking guards just some space to operate.”
Pella Christian returns to action on January third against the conference’s fourth ranking scoring offense in Newton on January 3rd.
