knoxville-vs-pella-christian-rivalry-showdown

It was a split between Knoxville and Pella Christian on the hardwood Monday night as the Panthers girls won 48-41 and the Eagle boys stopped Knoxville’s seven game winning streak with a 73-58 win heard live on KNIA/KRLS. In the girls game, the Eagles hung around by getting offensive rebounds and the Eagles’ Anna Eveland had her best game of the season, but it was Knoxville Hannah Dunkin, who drained five three point shots enroute 21 point night. Panthers Coach Matt Ritchhart told KNIA/KRLS Sports changing defenses kept the Eagles off balance.

Ritchhart: “I thought we rebounded well enough. I tried to figure out what defense to rebound out of. We changed our defense from a 1/3/1 to triangle to man for a little while. We got outrebounded for sure, but did just enough offensively to get the win.”

Eveland scored 17 points to lead Pella Christian as the Eagles fell to 1-10 on the season while Knoxville is 7-3. The Eagles started off well in the boys game, and kept the pressure on Knoxville for a 15 point win. Pella Christian’s Tysen De Vries kept Knoxville’s defense off balance but it was Dane Geetings scoring 20 points hitting 7/8 free throws in the 4th quarter to keep Knoxville’s comeback at bay. Geetings told KNIA/KRLS Sports the offense perked up on Monday, and let the Eagles spread the floor.

Geetings: “I think we moved the ball really well tonight. I don’t know if we’ve shot over 40% from the field this year. I was able to get the ball and they were telling me where to feed it like and it felt good to get the offense going.”

Pella Christian had the lead at 18 and Knoxville would get it down to ten multiple times in the 2nd half, but got no closer. The Panthers were led by Jay Kellar with 17 points. Pella Christian is now 6-5 on the season while Knoxville is 7-2. Both teams will head back into their respective conferences as Pella Christian travels to Dallas Center-Grimes tonight which can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while Knoxville travels to Cardinal, that game can be heard live on 95.3 KNIA.
