The Pella Christian girls basketball team wreaked havoc defensively to pick up a 41-29 victory over Albia Monday night in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while the boys basketball squad went on the road and dominated Pekin in an 83-47 win.

The Eagles girls squad jumped out to 19-9 halftime lead over the Blue Demons, after forcing 17 first half turnovers. Pella Christian pulled away in the third quarter, winning the period 18-8 to extend the lead to 37-17. Albia outscored the Eagles 12-4 in the fourth quarter, but P.C. forced another eight second half turnovers en route to grabbing their second win of the season. Senior Karlie Anderson, who scored a game high 17 points, said that it was a great feeling to be on top in the turnover battle.

“Well, we talked about it before the game, that this is very comparable team to us and oftentimes we have this done to us a lot like with DCG we get turnover after turnover, but this was kind of our night that we could go in and force some turnovers for them. So, that means kind of speeding up the game a little bit. They’re used to playing a little bit slower and we obviously playing it very fast conference. So yeah, we took advantage of that and just try to speed up the game a little.”

In Pekin, the Pella Christian boys team used a three-point barrage to cruise to the non-conference win over the Panthers. The Eagles knocked down 11 three-pointers in the first half to take a comfortable 53-28 lead going into the intermission. Pella Christian kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring Pekin 30-19 after the break to coast to the 36-point victory. Lincoln Vander Molen made five three-pointers to lead the Eagles offensively with 17 points, while Dane Geetings and Josiah Vos added 15 and 11 points respectively.

The Pella Christian girls basketball team improved to 2-11 overall, and the boys squad moved to 8-4 on the season. The Eagles basketball teams next return to the court on Friday with a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at Oskaloosa that can be heard live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
