Indianola pays a visit to Pella as the last week of Little Hawkeye Conference basketball action tips off tonight.

The Indian boys have clinched a share of the league title, and will win it outright with a win in either of their last two games or one loss each by Norwalk and Newton. Indianola beat the Dutch 60-53 four weeks ago, and Pella coach Derek Schulte knows his team will have its hands full tonight.

“Hey, they’re great. That’s a top five 4A team. We battled them hard over at their place, and they have Kingery back who’s one of the best players in the state. It’s also senior night for us, and what I know about us is this – make shots or miss shots, we’ve competed hard and competed together all year long. That’s what we’re going to do for our seniors on Tuesday night.”

In the opener of tonight’s doubleheader, it’s a top-15 matchup between the 8th-ranked Pella girls and #13 Indianola. The Dutch are currently all alone in second place in the LHC, and with a win tonight would mean they could finish no worse than a tie for second. Pella beat the Indians 54-43 in their earlier matchup.

Indians head coach Jeff Janssen said despite the loss last Friday to #1 Dallas Center-Grimes, he thinks the team is continuing to play hard each and every game, and they will need to try and find a way to score more points against a Pella team that is playing really well.

“Heading into this week both Pella and Pella Christian are playing tremendous right now. We are going to continue to reinvent ourselves offensively, and score more points than we have been. I believe the girls are going to buy in and get to work, traveling to Pella twice in 48 hours is going to be a tough trip for us, but we are excited to get back to work.”

Tonight’s doubleheader tips off at 6:15 at Pella High School, and pregame coverage hits the air at 5:45. Trevor Castle and Andrew Swadner will have the call on 94.3 KNIA, the KRLS2 stream and Pella Dutch Live YouTube channel.
