All six remaining winter sports teams will be in action through this Saturday for the Pella Dutch as the postseason looms and seasons near an end for some athletes.

Pella’s boys wrestlers are poised to send a group of athletes to Wells Fargo Arena and the state meet if they can navigate a deep field at the Carlisle Class 3A state qualifying site. Head Coach Jay Pike believes they have at least six wrestlers that should be top four seeds or better — and after several years of 3rd and 4th place finishes at Districts, he’s excited to see if those same competitors can take the next step and earn a state bid. Among the athletes to watch this weekend are:

Damion Clark (132 – 31-8 record); Peyton Ritzert (138 – 33-8 record); T.R. Putz (145 – 14-4 record); Logan Bruxvoort (160 – 18-4 record); Jackson Van Kley (170 – 36-6 record AND a 2022 state qualifier); Kieran Van Voorst (195 – 32-10)

Pella swimmers MacK Copeland and Eli Eekhoff are representing Pella among the NCMP Swimming Team from Newton at this Friday and Saturday’s state meet. The pair are part of a qualifying 400 freestyle relay at the University of Iowa. They were featured on this week’s KNIA/KRLS Radio Sports Page.

The Pella bowlers are in action today in a makeup meet with the Ballard Bombers at Perfect Games in Ames at 3 p.m. This marks the first of three consecutive days Dutch bowlers will be competing, as the girls conference meet will be held Friday and boys tournament Saturday in Oskaloosa at Statesman Lanes. This is ahead of Monday’s state qualifying meet for the Pella bowlers at Keokuk.

Pella’s basketball teams will hit the road for the final conference doubleheader of 2022-23 Friday as they travel to DCG. Pregame coverage starts at 6 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
