Just under a week away from their first meet as a team this spring, the Pella Christian track and field squad is learning which races best suit each athlete.

The Eagles feature a blend of experience and youth on a deep roster that has 40 athletes between the boys and girls squads. Nine of the 22 boys and 10 of the 18 girls out for track at Pella Christian are freshman. With many new athletes on the team, head coach Keith Anderson says the team is working on figuring out what their lineup will look like this season, but is confident they’ll be ready to go at Grinnell next week.

“A lot of young kids are new to the team this year, a lot of freshmen on both the boys and the girl’s side. So I’m still kind of trying to find roles and get to know these kids a little bit more. Some of them I’ve had in the classroom, some of them I have not. So, it’s still early in the learning experience for both them and myself and my assistant coaches, but we’re figuring it out and we’ll be ready to go in that first meet comes around over at Grinnell.”

The Eagles first track and field meet is Thursday, March 23rd at the Bear Athletic Center in Grinnell, and is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
