An emphasis on mental health will be put in place for the future for the Indianola Police Department, which is one of the main goals of 2023 according to Chief Brian Sher. Chief Sher tells KNIA News oftentimes police officers have to deal with people who are having one of the worst days of their lives and can lash out, and processing those emotions and moving on to do your job isn’t an easy thing to do.

“Officers see things and have to do things from time to time that are stressful, and you never know what that stress is causing internally or externally for that officer. So one thing we are doing is starting a peer support group, with trained members that if someone is having an issue or feeling a certain way they can go talk to someone. It’s confidential, and we will use lots of resources out there. We want to make sure we are healthy here so we can serve the public.”
