Despite a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches, the Central College women’s tennis team fell to Concordia University (Neb.), while in their final match before starting American Rivers Conference action, the Dutch men’s tennis team also fell to Concordia on Tuesday. Both teams lost 5-4.

The Dutch women dropped their second match of the spring in a narrow decision against the Bulldogs. Alli Kreider and Becca Vala both picked up singles wins for Central. Kreider won 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5 and Vala won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Madi Whalen and Jenna Mahoney both made it to a tie-breaking third set at No. 2 and 4 singles, respectively, before falling. Jennifer Larson and Whalen won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Brianna Lindstrom and Jenna Hernandez were also 8-6 winners at No. 3.

Trey Melvin won both of his matches against the Bulldogs, starting with an 8-6 doubles win alongside Matthew Den Adel in the No. 2 slot. He followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Nick Scott won 0-6, 7-5, 10-8 at No. 2 singles. Ayden Fletcher was victorious 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 hole.

A busy week for the Dutch women continues Thursday with a home match against Truman State University (Mo.) at 4 p.m. The Central men have a week off before opening American Rivers Conference action on Wednesday, March 29 at Nebraska Wesleyan University at 4 p.m.
