To say that the Knoxville Boys Golf Squad is in a good position to go to the state meet for a 3rd consecutive season is probably an understatement. The Panthers bring back all six players who were at the state meet last year that tied for 5th place overall and Coach Barry Smith has seven guys on the team that has played on a state tournament team. A very deep team to say the least, and he says it is only getting better.

Smith: “We have seven individuals that have had state level experience, and not many teams can say that. Our depth is just increasing, we have 22 boys out for golf this year, the first year I started we had 12.

Smith adds more freshmen are out this year which is good for the future of the program. He says they are not just looking to fill a spring with an activity but to actually play well and could challenge for a varsity spot in the near future. The Panthers first meet will be Tuesday as they take on West Central Valley and Clarke at the 5×80 Golf and Country Club in Menlo.
