indianola-8

The Indianola boys soccer team collected a huge win over Lewis Central Tuesday night in their season and home opener 1-0, while the Indians boys tennis squad fell to Boone 11-0.

The soccer squads were scoreless in the first half with neither team finding much of an advantage, and the defenses held stiff until Indianola was awarded a penalty kick which was converted in the 71st minute by Eric Schmidt that proved to be the go-ahead and only goal of the game. Head coach Heath Weeks tells KNIA Sports he feels the Indians have left a lasting cultural impact over the last several years with the athletes that have come through the program, and he feels that the younger talent is now picking up on what is expected of them and how to best succeed. Indianola improves to 1-0 on the season, and will host Southeast Polk on Friday.

The Indians boys tennis team fell to powerhouse Boone despite several close sets, including a narrow defeat at #1 doubles by the duo of Joe Comer and Michael Rothchild. The Indians will now try to get in the win column in a triangular with Urbandale and Des Moines Lincoln on Monday.
