Distance Medley Blue Standard Qualifiers from late March 2023 for Pella

Three More Drake Qualifiers for Pella Boys Track and Field at Waukee
It didn’t take long for the Pella boys track and field team to make an impact as the outdoor season started at the Waukee Early Bird Thursday. While no team scores were kept, the Dutch added three more entries to the Drake Relays via automatic qualifier, including the Distance Medley Relay of CJ Shetterly, Quinn Gruver, Trey Van Hauen, and Chase Lauman, who clocked in at 3:34.88. Brandon Fischer enjoyed throwing outside, as he came within nine inches of breaking the school record in the discus with a toss of 186 feet even — which is now the highest mark in Iowa so far this season, and his shot put heave of 55 feet, 7 inches also broke the Blue Standard distance, earning him two Drake Relays’ bids. Those qualifiers will join Chase Lauman (800, 1600, 3200 meters), CJ Shetterly (Long Jump), and Hanson King (Shot Put) at the Drake Relays in late April.

Pella also had individual wins from Luke Fairchild in the 110 hurdles (16.12), Nathan Vander Waal in the 3200 meters (10:22.55), and in the sprint medley relay made up of the four in the distance race. Click here for full team results. The Dutch join the girls at the DCG Invitational Saturday.

Pella Girls Golfers Earn Triangular Win in Lynnville

It was a solid start to the new year for the Pella girls golf team on the short trek to Diamond Trail Golf Course. The Dutch won with a team score of 206 in a triangular against PCM, who scored 244. Lynnville-Sully did not have enough athletes to score a full team. Pella was paced by a 44 from Karsyn Lyons, with runner-up medalist Ellie Wogen (51), Olivia Hood (52), and Landrey Els (59) rounding out Pella’s card. The Mustangs were led by a 57 score from Eleigh Davis and 61 each from Riley Johannes and Meredith Chipps. Click here for full results. Pella is off until they next travel to Newton on April 6th.

Solomon Scores Four as Dutch Boys Open at Winterset
It was a strong offensive performance for a Class of ’23 member to kick off the Pella boys soccer season, as they defeated Winterset 6-0 Thursday. Logan Solomon scored four of the six tallies for the Dutch as the Class 2A 2022 runners-up looked to start strong on the new year.

Head Coach Mark Solomon:
“Pella came out strong and confident, with Forward (and later in the game, Midfielder) Logan Solomon taking advantage of several mismatches against Winterset’s defenders. The Dutch scored four in the first half, and were comfortably in control. This provided the opportunity to get many players in the game and see multiple line-ups.”

Isaac Kalkwarf added a goal to the tally, and an own goal was also scored just a few minutes after Solomon put in two tallies in the 16th and 17th minute. Pella is 1-0 and welcomes Marion to the Tulip City on a chilly Saturday morning.
