
Pella Christian Boys Tennis Defeats Chariton, Girls Tennis Falls to Pella
The Pella Christian boys tennis team traveled to Chariton Tuesday and defeated the Chargers 7-2, while the Class 1A #9 ranked Eagles girls fell at home to 1A #6 Pella 7-4.
In Chariton, the Pella Christian boys improved to 8-4 on the season by sweeping doubles play and winning four of the six singles matches. Isaac Natelborg was an 8-1 winner at #2 singles, while Rob Schreur (8-2), Aaron Meinders (8-5), Rhett Terpstra (8-2) grabbed wins in #4-#6 singles. The #1 doubles tandem of Shaun Bos and Natelborg and the #3 doubles team of Meinders and Kirby Van Wyngarden each won their matches 8-0, while Toby Vander Molen and Schreur won their #2 doubles match 8-3.
Back on Eagle Lane, the Pella Christian girls managed to win two matches in singles and doubles play but dropped to 8-2 on the spring. Katy Roose was a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 winner at #1 singles, while Sydney Van Arendonk won her #3 singles match 7-5, 2-6, 1-0. Roose and Van Arendonk then ended the meet by finishing 2-0 on the night with a 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 win at #1 doubles. Emily Van Soelen and Ava Breems posted the Eagles’ fourth win of the night with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at #5 doubles.
Both of the Pella Christian tennis teams return to the court today at 10 a.m. for the Little Hawkeye Conference tournaments. The Eagles host the girls tennis tournament on Eagle Lane, while the boys conference tournament is at Grinnell High School.


Pella Christian Girls Soccer Dominates Grinnell, Defense Propels Eagle Boys to Win over the Tigers
The Pella Christian girls soccer team dominated Grinnell in a 10-0 road win Tuesday night, while the Class 1A #11 ranked Eagle boys escaped with a 2-1 win over the Tigers at home.
The Pella Christian girls were in control throughout the night against Grinnell, scoring four first half goals before adding the final six goals after halftime. Joslyn Terpstra posted a hat trick plus in the win, tying the school recorded with five goals in a single game and added two assists. Additionally, Joslyn broke the school records for points scored in a single game with 13 (2 points for goals, 1 for assists), single season assists with 16, and points scored in a season with 67. Lexi Terpstra and Esther Ford each contributed two goals in the victory, while Anna Eveland recorded her first goal of the season as the Eagles improved their record to 8-4-1.
The Pella Christian boys soccer team improved to 4-6 on the season by playing stout defense throughout the night. Goalkeeper Kaleb Pogany and the Eagles defense pitched a shutout in the first half, before surrendering a penalty kick goal in the second half. Supplementing the terrific defense in the win for Pella Christian were second half goals from Ethan Van Arendonk and Camden Parker. Van Arendonk scored on a corner kick assist from Jack Fancher, while Parker found the back of the net from roughly 25 yards out to propel the Eagles to the victory.
The Pella Christian boys return to action this weekend with a home match on Saturday against Centerville, while the Eagle girls are off until Monday when they host Central Iowa United.
