Dominant pitching and a fast start offensively powered the Pella Christian baseball team to a season-opening 10-0 road win at Sigourney Thursday night.

Getting the start on the mound, senior Corbin Westerkamp carved up the Savages with four innings of one-hit baseball. Westerkamp punched out nine batters of the possible 12 outs in the four innings he pitched, while walking three hitters. Grant Kelderman recorded the three-inning save with six strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and two walks. The Eagles offense produced 10 runs on 10 hits in the contest, with a five-run second-inning highlighting the runaway victory. Caleb Van Arendonk led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s. Lincoln Vander Molen and Kelderman added two hits apiece in the win, and Vander Molen and Collin Vander Wal collected a pair of RBI’s each.

With a 1-0 start in tow, the Pella Christian baseball team will try to keep the ball rolling tonight in their home opener against Carlisle at 7:30 p.m.
