Two Knoxville squads will be involved in postseason play today. The boys golf squad will head to the Veenker Course in Ames to play in their 3rd straight State Meet. Unlike the first two times, the Panthers are not just happy to be there, they want to bring home some hardware. Junior Evan Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports with some of the numbers they have been putting up in the 2nd half of the season, he is confident Knoxville can make a special two days in Ames.

Smith: “We’ve already been up there and played and we are confident that if we put up some of the scores we have been, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to bring home a trophy.”

The Panthers have seen a few of the teams this season already including ADM, Winterset, Williamsburg and defending state champion Gilbert. While golf is playing at the State meet, the boys soccer squad is trying to get to their 3rd State Tournament. To do that the Panthers will have to get past Grinnell Monday in the class 2A Sub State semi-finals. The two teams met this season on April 28th when Grinnell took a one-to-nothing penalty kicks game over Knoxville. Kick off is set for 7:30 following a class 2A match between Chariton and Clarke. The winner of the Knoxville and Grinnell match will take on the survivor of the Nevada and Oskaloosa match on Wednesday.
