Eight members of the Central College track and field teams will be in seven events at the upcoming 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

St. John Fisher University (N.Y.) is the host school for the weekend and the action will be held at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester. The three-day meet starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Caroline McMartin and Megan Johnson are No. 3 and No. 6 on the qualifying list in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. The tandem finished second and third at the American Rivers Conference Championships on May 11 in 10:32.58 and 10:38.03, respectively. Both were 10 seconds faster than the previous school record set in 2018. McMartin will double back for Saturday’s 5,000-meter race where she is qualified No. 12 in 16:50.17. She ran that time on April 1 in the first outdoor meet and has only run it twice since.

Central also has a pair of athletes in the men’s decathlon. Brody Klein totaled 6,587 points at the league championships and is No. 9 on the list. Reid Pakkebier compiled 6,402 points in a last chance meet to qualify at No. 20. The national decathlon will be Pakkebier’s third in a three-week span. Pakkebier was 15th nationally in the decathlon in 2022 and Klein was 17th.

Caleb Silver is the No. 8 qualifier in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:57.55). Silver was 12th in the same event in 2021 and he was an All-American in cross country this past fall.

Theo Baldus is also making a return trip to the outdoor national meet in the discus throw. He finished 18th in 2022 and he’s the No. 17 qualifier for this year (167-3).

Adam Sylvia and Noah Jorgenson are not new to the national scene having qualified for previous indoor track and field national meets and during cross country for Jorgenson, but neither have run at the outdoor national meet. Sylvia enters at No. 19 in the 1500 meters (3:47.67) and Jorgenson is No. 20 in the 800 meters (1:50.42). Both ran their season-best marks at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier on the final day of qualifying.
