The Knoxville Softball Program will be looking for a new varsity coach. That is because Carla Smith resigned following the season ending loss to Burlington last Saturday. The school board in their most recent meeting accepted her resignation which was effective immediately. Smith had spent the past six seasons on the coaching staff and the past four as head coach compiling a 64-37 record. Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was time to allow someone else to take the reins as she is looking forward to new things in her life.

Smith: “It’s not just the players that come out, and the great people that come out to the games and the fans in Knoxville to allow me to be a part of my summer. That said, it’s just time for someone else to lead the program and I’m looking forward to new things in my life.”

Smith will stay on as a math teacher at the high school. The search will begin for a new softball coach immediately.
