Counting down the top moments of the 2022-23 year for Indianola High School continuing with #3. Continuing a tradition for Indianola High School wrestling, Bowen Downey passed 150 career wins, and broke through to the state championship match in class 3A where he finished as a runner-up. Downey entered the state meet as the #2 seed at 120lbs, and cruised through the first three rounds, earning a first round bye, winning 16-7, then 7-0 in the quarterfinals. Downey had to mount a comeback in the semifinals but would eventually win 13-10, to set up the #1 vs #2 matchup on championship Saturday. Downey and opponent Koufax Christensen from Waukee Northwest were scoreless heading into the third period, and Downey briefly took a 1-0 lead, however a takedown put Christensen up 2-1 and that held to the final buzzer. Downey finished his Indianola career with two third place finishes and a second place.
