The Class 2A 13th ranked Pella Christian boys cross country took 8th, while the 20th ranked girls were 12th at the Gilbert Meet on Tuesday. The Eagles volleyball squad was also in action on the road Tuesday night, sweeping Woodward-Granger 3-0.
For the third time in as many meets, Sawyer Meinders led the Pella Christian boys cross country team, finishing in 25th place with a time of 17:09. Deacon Branderhorst (17:40.10) was the Eagles second highest finisher in the meet taking 40th. The Pella Christian girls were led by 2A individually ranked #26 Bailey Vos, who was 30th with a time of 20:56.20. Find full results from the Gilbert Cross Country Meet here.
In Woodward, the Eagles volleyball team bounced back from Tuesday night’s tough loss with a commanding sweep of the Hawks. The Eagles dominated early, leading by as much as 14 before taking set one 25-13. Woodward-Granger put up more resistance in the second set, but Pella Christian again lead the entire way to move within a set of the match sweep with 25-17 victory. The Hawks scored the first three points of the third set to hold their first lead of the night, only for the Eagles to rattle off the next six points. The final set remained close, but Pella Christian completed the sweep with a 25-19 decision to improve to 3-6 on the season. Ema Zula posted a team-high 10 kills, while Addison Bandstra had two solo blocks at the net.
Both the Eagles cross country and volleyball teams are back in action on Tuesday, with the cross country teams competing at Oskaloosa and volleyball hosting Pella.
