The harvest season in Iowa is winding down, and farmers have seen good yields and gotten ahead of schedule this year.
According to the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service on Monday, corn harvested for grain in South Central Iowa has reached 54% and soybeans harvested has reached 75%. Statewide, corn harvested for grain has reached 77% and soybeans harvested has reached 93%. The report also indicates that producers are either on pace or ahead of schedule and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says that reflects the great start to the season farmers were able to have.
“We got off to a really good start in terms of harvest and we’ve been trending a few days ahead of average in terms of harvest progress. We’re about where we need to be on average here today and again harvest is gone reasonably well.”
