The Breast Center at Pella Regional Health Center was recently recognized as a Certified Participant of the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program (NQMBC).

The NQMBC began in April of 2005 and is used in 45 states nationwide. The program offers facilities providing breast health care the ability to track and measure performance and compare that data with other participating breast centers across the country. Participants then use these comparison reports to identify where quality care already exists and where quality care improvement opportunities can be achieved. Pella Regional Health Center General Surgeon J.D. Welander says that he is impressed by the quality of care they can provide, despite not having the resources of bigger hospitals.

“Here we are a smaller town in Iowa, and yet we’re offering really great resources to a whole area. Not only the nearby surrounding communities, but we have people all the way to the southern border near Missouri that are coming up to be able to be served by our programs and what we have to offer. So, I’ve been really overwhelmed and impressed with the wide community support to develop things such as MRI breast coil, a nurse navigator, and some other specialized equipment to allow us to provide more specialized procedures in Pella.”

The honor represents a commitment by Pella Regional’s Breast Care Center to provide the highest level of quality breast health care to patients in their community.
