The Melcher-Dallas Boys Basketball Squad lost a tough game to Moulton-Udell on Thursday in the consolation round of the Bluegrass Conference Tournament 59-53. The Saints started slowly, committing 11 1st quarter turnovers and trailing 17-6. However, the Eagles went cold in the 2nd half and the Saints taking the lead three times in the 4th quarter, but always losing the lead to Moulton-Udell, who eventually hit free throws down the stretch to ice the game. Melcher-Dallas Coach Matt Bennett told KNIA Sports after a slow start he was glad to see his team claw back into the game.

Bennett: “We started really flat and the guys turned it around. We were down by 13 and we got back in so I was really happy with how we fought back.”

Drew Heaberlin scored 16 points hitting key shots in the 4th quarter to keep the Saints alive while Reece Chiabotta scored 13. Melcher-Dallas will head into the make-up portion of its schedule taking on Colo-NESCO. While the boys have finished the BGC Tournament, the girls are playing for a spot in the tournament final tonight against Lamoni. The Saints, after a sluggish start against Orient-Macksburg on Wednesday pulled away for a 26 point win. Lamoni is the only other unbeaten team in the Bluegrass Conference along with Ankeny Christian, who plays Mormon Trail in the other semi-final. Tip off is set for 6:00 at Mormon Trail High School.
