The Knoxville Wrestling Squad will lose several key contributors from this season’s team. Included in the senior class is Daniel Gorskikh, who finished 4th at the state meet in the 175 pound weight class. Also in that group is Tre DeRaad at 113 pounds, Dane Gullion at 120 pounds, Chase Rider at 132 pounds, Kale Kincaid at 157 pounds, Wayne Johnston at 190 pounds, and Jayden Montalvo at 215 pounds. That is seven from the varsity unit that will need to be replaced. Right now Coach Skylar Spaur does not know who or how many guys he will have when practice starts next season…but he wants the returning wrestlers to commit to getting better and stronger.
Spaur: “I know we got to get a lot stronger. Some of our kids are going to make a bigger sacrifice, I think they wrestled a couple weight classes above what they should have. I’m just waiting to see our kids get bigger, faster, and stronger.”
Spaur appreciates the seniors and their contribution, but he adds for the younger guys this is a chance for them to break into the varsity line up, but they have to put in the offseason work.
