Clear skies and above-average temperatures greeted the Norwalk track and field teams for Friday’s home scrimmage against Oskaloosa. The Warriors are hoping for more of the same as the outdoor season gets underway during the next several days.
The Norwalk girls and boys squads are scheduled to compete in a combined six track meets during the final two weeks of March, when conditions are often cold, wet, windy, or a combination of all three. April weather offers much of the same unpredictability.
Norwalk boys coach Matt Ramthun is hopeful that the recent mild weather continues for as long as possible. Both Warriors teams are part of the field for Tuesday’s meet at Simpson College, which was postponed last year due to weather as well as other years during the recent past.
“Track is always a sport we associate with weather,” Ramthun said. “We always kind of flip a coin on what the weather is going to be in March and April, and make adjustments… But right now the forecast looks good to have those meets, so we’re excited to get a lot of guys in a lot of (events).”
The Norwalk boys are also scheduled to compete at the Waukee Northwest Invitational on Thursday, March 21. As of today, the forecast for both of next week’s meets shows dry conditions with high temperatures close to 60 degrees.
