The Knoxville Police Department is reminding citizens of golf cart and UTV safety and to renew their registration.
According to city code, golf carts and UTVs may be operated upon the streets of the city by persons possessing a valid operator’s license and are at least 18 years of age. To operate a golf cart within the city, it needs to be registered. A permit will only be issued once the owner has provided proof of liability insurance, and an inspection is done by the police department and city. UTVs may be operated upon the streets of the city and on two-lane state highways within the city, but are not allowed on any state divided highway. Golf Carts and UTVs should also never be driven on sidewalks. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller wants to remind community members of the height requirement when it comes to these vehicles.
“A child has to be at least 42 inches tall. 42 inches tall indicates a certain age, weight, and a certain ability to hang on and control yourself if the driver makes a sudden or quick movement in an attempt to avoid a crash or anything you might want to avoid on the roadway.”
The Knoxville Police Department can assist anyone with questions regarding golf carts and UTVs Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:00 pm. For all city code information relating to these vehicles you can follow this link.
