The Norwalk Police Department announced Monday that Officer Jayson Spurr died Saturday following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Spurr, who was 46 years old, served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and three tours of duty overseas. Spurr moved to Norwalk in 2006 and began his career with the police department in 2008. In addition to working with the Norwalk Police Department, Spurr was active with the DARE Association, served as the Iowa Law Enforcement Torch Run Assistant Director for Special Olympics of Iowa, was a board member of the Helping Heroes Foundation, and the Precision Driving Instructor for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

Visitation for Officer Spurr will be held from 5-8 pm tonight at the Norwalk United Methodist Church. A celebration of life service will also be held Thursday afternoon at 1 pm at the church and the service will be livestreamed here. Military honors will be given by the United States Air Force and the Cumming American Legion Post 562 and burial will be at the Norwalk Cemetery.
