The Iowa Legislature approved the Area Education Agency Reform in March, which was signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds, however the Iowa House is now going back to review the bill’s oversight regarding how the districts will be able to spend the funds. As the bill stands, districts would have the authority to spend the funds that will be taken over from the AEA’s, however limited oversight in the legislation does not specifically require where those funds be spent.

State Representative Brooke Boden tells KNIA News she does not believe this will delay or impact the future of the reforms.

“The bill has passed, but none of the money has been allocated yet. So I don’t feel like this is going to hold anything up. We’ll definitely take a look at it and make sure before everything is signed in and ready to roll as far as our budget rules that always take place after running a bill and all of those things are in place. I have full faith that we will have resolution on that.”
