The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host an Out of the Darkness Walk on Sunday, April 14th on the Central College campus.

The return of the event has been coordinated by Central College junior Kallie Wallick, with help from Assistant Dean of Students Kristi Leonard. The event features a resource fair at 1 pm, vendors and speakers presenting information, before the 2-mile walk around campus at 2 pm. As a fundraising event, all individuals who raise $100 or more will receive a free Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt. Wallick, who has struggled with mental health, says that her goal with the event is to support others that have endured the same struggles.

“My goal is to advocate for others that maybe don’t have that support and so I’m hoping that the walk will do that. And the walk for me has actually provided a lot of motivation, because in order for me to do the walk, I kind of have to have a good mental mind, so the walk itself is actually a big motivator for me as well.”

All are welcome to participate in this walk, and a link to register or donate can be found here. Hear more about the Out of the Darkness Walk at Central College on today’s Let’s Talk Pella.
