The City of Indianola will begin Phase 2B of the Hillcrest Avenue Pavement Reconstruction Project next Monday, after beginning Phase 2 in March. During the next phase, Hillcrest will be closed between 9th and 14th Street, in addition to the intersection of Hillcrest and 14th St.

Public Works Director Akhilesh “AP” Pal tells KNIA News the multi-year project will have many construction workers with equipment in the area which may cause delays, so he asks that commuters take extra time to get to their destination and be mindful of the extra vehicles on the road when driving through that area.

“Know where you are going, plan ahead, look for detour signs and make sure when planning you take some extra time for your commute. When you are going on that road what you are used to will eventually have a road closure. So if you plan ahead to know where the detours are, follow them, and make sure you are driving cautiously. Also be careful of the work zone construction areas.”

The project replaces the failed two-lane concrete pavement with a new three-lane paved street, and includes new storm-sewer infrastructure, a new sidewalk on one side of the road, and an improved crossing for the Summerset Trail.
