The Knoxville City Council approved a development agreement with Huegerich Holdings Series 2 LLC for apartments and townhomes to be constructed within the Veterans District.

This agreement is for the western 3.67 acres in “Block A” of the Veterans District, which is the land just south of West Pleasant St.

Huegerich is applying for workforce housing tax credits, which the project is contingent upon, to build a three-story 30-unit apartment building in phase one, and to build 20 row houses in phase two of the Veterans District project. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says this is a continued effort to bring more rental housing to Knoxville. Ussery hopes, the city will have more housing available to those who work in the community.

“That will be significant and we are hopeful not only for people that are currently in town looking, but also hopefully gaining those employees that are working at Weiler and 3M that are currently traveling into Knoxville. We are hoping to retain those employees once we have those units available for them to live here in Knoxville.”

The other portion of “Block A” in the Veterans District will be used for senior housing which was also recently approved. Hear more from Ussery on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
