The City of Leighton will hold their Independence Day festivities on Friday.

The celebration for the town has taken place on the Friday before the 4th of July for several years. Activities begin at 5 pm Friday night, with food, games, a parade, adult softball, and more being held throughout the town and fireworks are scheduled to start at 10 pm.

The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio begins its journey across 4th of July celebrations in area communities as well. Julie Rooda with the Leighton Independence Day Celebration says that they are grateful for the donations they receive to make the event possible.

“What I think is so cool about this is that it’s a good ole small town event where there’s a lot of activities for people to do for free. So, we’ll have Smitty’s Inflatables, Vandenberg Caricature Drawings, we’ll have Case Face Painting, and Toby the Balloon Dude. And so, there’s a lot of different things, as well as some local displays that people have access to and all of that is brought to us by donations, and I just think that’s fantastic.”
