The Norwalk summer sports teams lost a combined three road games on Friday night against two of the top teams in the state. The Warrior softball team lost at West Des Moines Valley and the baseball squad was swept in a doubleheader at Dallas Center-Grimes.

Softball loses 7-5

In a matchup of highly-ranked softball teams, Class 4A No. 2 Norwalk led 5A No. 2 Valley 5-0 after four innings. The Tigers responded with a four-run fifth and a three-run sixth, improving to 20-4 with the 7-5 victory. Valley has won 16 of their last 17 games.

Norwalk, which dropped to 22-4 overall, got a two-run homer from Lauren Black in the first inning and a two-run single by Addi Downe in the third. Olivia Dougherty pitched the first five innings, allowing four runs. Carly Brewer pitched the sixth inning and took the loss in relief. The Warriors return to action on Tuesday night, hosting Winterset.

Baseball falls 12-9 and 4-1

The Norwalk baseball team lost a pair of three-run decisions at 4A third-ranked DC-G, falling 12-9 in game one and 4-1 in the night cap. The Mustangs, now 25-1 overall and 14-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, also edged Norwalk 2-1 earlier this season.

The Warriors trailed 7-1 after two innings and 11-4 after three in game one, but made things interesting with a five-run top of the sixth. DC-G outhit Norwalk 16-11. In game two, the Warriors tallied nine hits off Mustang pitcher Dayne Mauk, but plated just one run as Mauk went the distance.

The Warriors are now 11-14 overall and 8-7 in conference play. They will host Des Moines Roosevelt on Tuesday night.
