The city of Bussey will hold their 149th annual 4th of July Celebration on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kicking off the festivities at Bussey City Park on July 3rd is the Fire Department Supper at 4:30 pm. All other events on Wednesday begin at 5 pm, including bingo, carnival rides and Neva Alden performing live music. Thursday’s events begin with the Bussey Methodist Church Breakfast from 7-9 am. The Fourth of July Parade starts at 10 am, and Bussey’s 2024 Prince and Princess will be crowned at 6 pm. The fireworks show concludes the two-day event at 10 pm. Other events on July 4th, include, two performances on the stage at Bussey City Park, carnival rides, and the Bussey Library Book Sale and Silent Action. Bussey 4th of July Celebration Committee President Jodi Van Essen says that while they use the event to fundraise for future celebrations, they strive to make it affordable for those attending.

“We really try to focus on being family friendly. So, we have music that’s free. The Carnival, you do have to buy a wristband for that or you can buy tickets, but otherwise everything is on the freer end.”
