The Indianola softball team upset #8 in class 5A Ankeny Monday evening on the road 4-2, while the baseball team dominated Ballard 6-1.
Ankeny took a 1-0 lead, but Indianola tied it in the fourth with a solo home run by Katie Fosenburg then Kyra Robins hit a two-run blast as the Indians led 3-1 after the fourth. The Indians added another run in the fifth on an Ankeny error, then held on despite pressure from the Hawks in the seventh. Ava Tichy got the win in the circle. The Indians end their regular season with a record of 19-17, and will travel to Creston on Thursday to begin postseason play.
The baseball team got a great start from Andrew DeWall on the mound going five innings giving up just one run to earn the win. George Blake picked up two hits at the plate, while Asher Brueck also had two hits and an RBI. The Indians are now 25-11 on the season, and make their regular season finale appearance tonight on the road at North Polk.
