The Knoxville Boys of Summer pulled a sweep in Oskaloosa 5-4 in game one and 9-1 in the nightcap while the Girls of Summer struggled for the second straight game allowing double digit runs in a 13-5 loss to Fairfield on Tuesday night. The Panthers accomplished just their 2nd double header sweep of the season over the same team. Roston McCarty for the win in game one he went 3 innings allowed 7 hits and three runs and Lincoln Norris was credited with the save as he went four innings on just two hits and three strikeouts while in the nightcap Brenden Woolsey got the win with three walks and pitched a no hitter. Kyler Gifford led at the plate going 3/4 with 2 RBIs and Luke Roozeboom had a double. The softball squad was able to score first in its half of the 1st inning as Ciara Heffron got an RBI groundout. But Fairfield took control from there plating four runs in its half of the 1st to take control. The big blow came in the 5th when the Trojans put a five spot up to make the score 12-4. Heffron was strong at the plate once again as she went 3/4 with three RBI and a home run, Charlye Willis was the other Panthers with multiple hits as she went 2/4 with an RBI. Willis took the loss going two innings, Heffron struck out five in three innings and Jordyn Counts pitched an inning of relief as well. Knoxville finishes the regular season at 10-13 and will now prepare for Thursday’s Class 4A regional opener against Oskaloosa. Baseball also ends the regular season winning five of its last six and posting a 16-17 record and will look to Friday’s class 3A Substate matchup at Winterset.
